2016 / 2017 Call for Outdoor Sculptures / Chelsea, MI

Project Description
“SculptureWalk Chelsea” is an annual public arts project sponsored by the Chelsea Downtown
Development Authority, the City of Chelsea, Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights, and River Gallery. 12 sculptures will be juried into the exhibit and installed outdoors, on concrete pads in high profile
locations in historic downtown Chelsea, Michigan, (located 14 miles west of Ann Arbor). Online and print brochures will be provided to the public to inspire self-guided walking tours of the exhibit. Guided docent tours will also be available through the Chelsea District Library and River Gallery.
On the launch date of June 9, 2016, there will be a reception for the artists, hosted by the River Gallery, sponsored by the community partners. This reception will be a feature of the 40th annual kick-off to “Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights,” an eleven-week free summer musical event in downtown Chelsea. All work must be for sale and remain in the exhibit for the entire year (June 2016 – May 2017). Each artist will receive a $600 stipend. The deadline for submissions is March 28, 2016.

Selection Criteria
Entries will be critiqued on artistic merit and originality. All finalists will have to meet standards of public safety and durability of design and materials. Freestanding sculptures will be considered. All work must be original, created by the artist, for sale, and remain in the exhibit for one year.

Artists selected will be notified by April 8th, 2016. The list of finalists will be posted on the following websites:
www.chelsearivergallery.com and facebook / SculptureWalk Chelsea
